GENERAL NAME: Leonardo Matteo Fiori NICKNAMES: Anything you can do to Leonardo AGE/DOB: 17; March 5 BLOOD STATUS: Halfblood; both his parents are halfblood. GENDER/PRONOUNS: Male. He/Him SEXUALITY: Just kidding, I have now figured out he is Brainsexual. If you can deal with him and challenge him, he might just might be into you, gender aside. I don't know what this makes him. Officially, he's probably been with mostly girls! HOMETOWN: Jersey City, New Jersey
CONCEPT: Runt of a litter trying to outshine everyone, including himself
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Other than just messy because he's a boy, there isn't anything outstanding about the way Leo chooses to wear his uniform. He takes some pride in his appearance outside of it, because his older brothers will call him a slob otherwise, and he knows he's better looking in neat jeans and sweaters. He won't ever wear anything too extreme, as he likes very much to be taken seriously. Leo always moves quickly, but rather gracefully, until he opens his mouth and his accent gives any grace he had away. He has the kind of face that looks like it needs punching, but really it's because he's thinking about 900 things at once, he promises.
HEIGHT: 5'9
PB: James Newman, ICONS TO BE UPDATED MOMENTARILY.
PERSONALITYLIKES: Quidditch. His ma's cooking. Girls. His siblings. New York. Jersey more than New York. Science. Anatomy. Realism. Physics. Loud music. Law and Order (shhh). DISLIKES: Camping :(. The soft sciences. Imagination. Joy and light (just kididng?). Poetry. Figures of speech. Politics. Loud people. PERSONALITY: Leo has always thought that being the best was not just something to strive for, but something to live. He was a little coddled as a child, always given every opportunity and every accolade he ever wanted. But he took that and with it gained an edge and a hunger for competition. He didn't want to be given anything; he wanted to work for it. That largely came from him seeing his older siblings succeed and his parents being proud of them for being something other than the youngest. That's always been a little bit of an issue. He doesn't really care if people like him, he just wants to be seen as the best person they know. That unfortunately means he sees and grades people up immediately. Either they're fit to spend time with him (will bring him up, he can associate with them always), or they will drag him down (and thus probably only good for parties.)
He is, as you can VERY much imagine, prone to burnout. He is a private person with real feelings, largely because he doesn't want to show any weakness, because that's bad. He tires, though, just like anyone else would, and has to recharge by taking a few hours off or more realistically just launching himself into a fresh project. He's the kind of person who you swear would die if he stopped. He's trained himself to be such a perfectionist that he also has a sharp edge you can sense from miles away. He doesn't take well to feelings or talking. He has that Italian macho thing that he's picked up from his brothers, but slightly toned down so it isn't a caricature of that. It's just a very strong drive to be a Man, to be respectful, to prove his own strength. And in his case, that strength is very physical but also very mental. He doesn't see why it can't be both.
He's not horrible to people. He might ignore people if he thinks they are worth ignoring, but when he has a vested interest in them, he's caring enough and kind enough. As long as people don't want directly what he does, he is able to want to coach them towards what they are working for, and really his drive has aided more than one of his friends along. If he senses someone's in direct competition with him, though, he's not necessarily able to separate that from who they are as a person, largely because his own goals are so tied up with his personality.
He has an ego, as you might imagine, but he's not that cocky. He likes proving things rather than saying them. His favorite thing in the world is when someone doesn't think he can do something, and he gets to tell them he told them so. He doesn't handle loss well and it's often then when everything crashes down for a little and he has to run away and be by himself for a little while. He's somewhat introverted, and doesn't have a bunch of time for people who just want to hang out. When socializing, he'd rather it be for a purpose. He's also really not afraid to use people for his own ends by using what resources they have. He won't outright cheat, but he will cut as many corners as he needs to, and he's absolutely savvy enough to find them. He's working as hard as he can, and he isn't going to work any harder than he has to.
Around people, when he's finally calmed down a little, he can be very charming when he wants. He doesn't brag about the things that he does and that's basically the one way he's an acceptable human being who not everyone (probably) hates. He's able to have friends and is actually quite a competent team leader. He'd be a good coach someday if he could calm down. During conflict,he gets softer instead of louder and would much rather insult you at a monotone than punch you. Luckily, he's able to keep himself from that most of the time.

HISTORY:
Leo Fiori was always something of a runt, and that's probably important to remember later. His father and mother were both born Americans, but were both children of Italian immigrants, so he's third generation. His family settled in New Jersey because it was cheaper and frankly more homey than the bigger city on the other side of the river. The Fioris both worked relatively blue collar jobs, and met the time that Alonzo was security for someone getting medically cleared in Giovanna's hospital before going into custody. He was out with so many pain potions, which was a good thing, because his healer and guard were mostly flirty all night instead of doing their jobs.
It was a whirlwind romance of the "let's get married so we don't have to feel Catholic-Guilty about the sex we're having" variety. Giovanna wasn't pregnant when she walked down the aisle, but she was shortly after, and had a series of beautiful children. They stopped when their tiny, cramped, yet bigger on the inside house was feeling too full, and fully intended to raise their three children to adulthood and then retire and grow old in peace. They weren't counting on a magical oops baby nine years after their last planned one.
Leo was never treated like an accident and he always appreciated that. When he was born (and magical procedures were performed to make sure he was the Fiori's Actual Last,) it was to a very loving, if slightly surprised set of siblings and parents. Growing up, Bernardo was the only one home. All of his siblings went to the magical Queens school because his parents couldn't afford much else, and they showed no signs of wanting to get out. Not that they weren't smart; Antonia was smart as hell and made her slightly subpar education work for her, and both the boys were smart too. It was just they were happy where they were. So was Leo, for most of his time. He Floo'ed into the Queens school daily, just like his siblings had. The difference was he had no real incentive to come home at the end of the day. His house was calm and quiet, and frankly boring. So he joined a lot of sports.
He was in Quidditch in school, a neighborhood football team, indoor soccer in the winter to keep nimble. Leonardo hardly ever had time at home alone, which is mostly the way he liked it. He was very talented athletically, and even trained with his personal trainer slash gym older slash almost celebrity brother. The thing was, he wanted to be exactly like his sister and his other brother too. He had three role models from the very beginning, and he couldn't choose which one to pick. So he picked all of them and saw no reason he couldn't be them, and then better. His parents hardly saw him when he was little, he worked so hard at both school and his sports. And that was good, because they were old, and old was depressing, and Leo hated being depressed.
He was pulled aside his eighth grade year to be told that he had been selected for a Quidditch scholarship for Gooseberry high, and did he want to go? (Of course he wanted to go.) The school achieved one more ultra-competitive, bright student who thought he was the shit. And then he realized that he kind of was not the shit. A far cry from having a bevy of people who considered him to be the brightest star in their family, Leo was now among people who worked just as hard as him, and he didn't know quite how to take that. The answer appeared to be Not Very Well.
He got on the Quidditch team as a reserve freshman year and wanted to punch someone with the Beater's bat that he could not take full control of. He never actually punched anyone; he was always a lot of bark and no real bite. But it knocked him solidly down a few pegs. His classes were good; and he clung to those to show his worth. Leo had the supreme tendency to see everyone on earth more as competition than peers. He considered himself peerless, really, and he always had. Leo picked the hardest courses to get into. He loved his DADA teacher, and decided that Auror was the most difficult thing to do. Plus his law-enforcement/medical/fire family would be really proud of him. The minute he told them, they started introducing him as "my son the future Auror." That was just another incentive.
He calmed down a little when he actually made it on to the team in his sophomore year. He was a good Beater, that was undeniable, and he was still good at his schooling. That meant he could breathe and not glare daggers down anyone's throat. He left the ultra-competitiveness for the pitch and was able to go home every night and actually smile sometimes. Maybe the fresh air was doing him unprecedented good after all. He still maintained a sharp edge; still wouldn't be peaceful ever. But the fact that he's a Quidditch captain now, and he's in really difficult classes means that he feels in Senior year that he's achieved pretty much what he's going to. He can stop being non-stop now.
As a captain, which he was THRILLED to be by the way, he's quiet but intense. You know if you've fucked up and he knows what to do to punish you. He runs his players through drills mercilessly and expects perfection. You will be sitting for hours following every match to assess what you've done wrong. But then you'll win.
SCHOOL YEAR: Senior HOUSE: Ebonhide SORTING: He was a delicate balance between Coppertale and his own house. He was the one to choose, more than anything, because he liked the sound of quiet intensity and goal-reaching far better than anything headstrong. He could do that all on his own. So he told the bear he picked them, and that was pretty much that. WAND: Hickory and dragonscale FAMILIAR: A small owl named Godfather
CLASSES: Transfiguration, DADA, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Animagus Studies (He is going to be a snapping turtle, so that's fun), Herbology SENIOR PROJECT: He's aiming to be an Auror because it's the hardest thing he can think of, so he wants to show ways he can use his animagus in espionage/undercover settings. At least in theory. Really he's going to be a goddamn SNAPPING TURTLE which won't help him hide except in some ponds.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: He is doing very well in school, thank you for asking. When he is focused too hard on Quidditch leading, his grades tend to slip a little, but for the most part, he's able to keep them up, especially in DADA. He is taking a lot of classes because he also wants to be an Auror, but his ability to do ALL OF THIS by the time he graduates without burning out is slim. EXTRACURRICULARS: Quidditch Captain, Duelling
